Behave yourselves wisely [living prudently and with discretion] in your relations with those of the outside world (the non-Christians), making the very most of the time and seizing (buying up) the opportunity.

Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned as it were with salt, (so that you may never be at a loss) to know how you ought to answer anyone (who puts a question to you).

It takes a lifetime to build a good name for your life, yet you can destroy it in just a matter of moments. Your life in the Lord is to speak of His kindness, goodness and mercy to those living in the outside world.

Since the day that you proclaimed that you belonged to Jesus (and that is the right thing to do) you became a goldfish in a bowl. Everyone is watching your lifestyle, attitude and behavior.

Now don’t get into a panic. The Lord will help and keep you, but you will have to at least try and do your best to be a light to others.

People are often unnecessarily critical because their own lives are a mess. You can handle it, smile! Calm down, and let your light shine as brightly as possible. Persecution arises when you obey God’s Word; think about it, it comes with the blessings!

I would rather live for God than have man’s approval.
