Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognise and honor and praise and glorify your Father

When I attended Sunday School, we used to sing “this little light of mine”, I never knew until I was much older what that little song was all about. Even now, when I sing that song, tears run down my cheeks, as I remember the childlike faith with which I sang it. There is tremendous depth to the words.

It is in living and obeying the Word of God before others that causes your light to shine. When circumstances say:

  • be depressed, you refuse – your light is shining;
  • fight, get into strife, you refuse – your light is shining;
  • you are a failure, climb back up – your light is shining; and
  • your marriage is finished, work at it – your light is shining.

In every situation that you face it takes courage and determination for your light to shine. The best testimony is to the folks that know you the best. They have seen your reactions and know how you normally behave, let your little light shine.

Just like a matchstick flame can be seen from a distance, and is so small, your light will drive back the darkness. Get to grips with the Light that is in your life and don’t let anyone put it out. You will be a help to some who is helpless.

Shine as brightly as you can.
